(TAP) – Technical studies relating to the seawater desalination project using solar energy, to be carried out by the British company “Solar Water PLC” in southern Tunisia with a budget of 600 million dollars, have recorded a clear progress, announced officials of this company.
During a meeting held on Thursday with Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Saïed, the members of the British delegation expressed their readiness to continue consultations with the Tunisian side on the various aspects of the project, the first of its kind in the African region, which will allow the production of nearly 200,000 cubic meters of water per day, using solar energy and cutting-edge technologies that meet current international standards, announced a statement of the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
For his part, the Minister recalled that the green economy, in particular, the component related to the mobilisation of water resources and the transition to renewable and clean energies, is one of the main axes of the strategic vision of Tunisia by 2035 and the development plan 2023-2025.
The project to be carried out by Solar Water PLC is in line with the national priorities for the next period, Saeid said, stressing the readiness of his department and the various structures and ministries concerned to provide the necessary support and assistance to contribute to the progress of this project.
The meeting was held in the presence of UK ambassador to Tunis, Helen Winterton.
